RECALL ALERT: Stella & Chewy’s Frozen and Freeze-Dried Pet Food

Because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, Stella & Chewy’s has voluntarily recalled several frozen and freeze-dried pet food products.

Stella & Chewy’s, which is based in Oak Creek, Wisc., was notified by the Maryland Dept. of Agriculture July 2 that it had issued a stop sale order on a single lot of Freeze-Dried Chewy’s Chicken Dinner for Dogs because it tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

“Since learning this news, we have been working quickly to review the situation to find answers to the important questions on our customers’ minds,” Jen Guzman, CEO of Stella & Chewy’s, said in an announcement July 4. “As a precautionary measure, we are voluntarily recalling all products from lot 111-15.”

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The symptoms for both people and dogs include high fever, stiffness, nausea and diarrhea. If you or your dog have these symptoms after touching or eating the recalled products, see a doctor or veterinarian.

The recalled products were sold via wholesale distributors and retail stores throughout the United States. They were not sold in Canada. They can be identified by the description and bag size on the front of the bag, and the UPC number, lot code and use by date on the back of the bag.

All of the following recalled products have the Lot Number 111-15, which tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes:
