World Dog Awards Coming to Your Tee Vee Next Year

world dog awardsAward shows for dogs aren’t anything new – the American Humane Association (AHA) has presented the Hero Dog Awards for years, and in 2012 there was the apparently one-time-only Golden Collar Awards, attended by C-list celebrities.

But early next year, perhaps for the first time ever, one of these types of events will air on a (sort of) major network. The CW announced this week that it will broadcast the World Dog Awards in January 2015.

“For the first time, dogs will be celebrated for their work in entertainment, health services and the military, along with everyday dogs who found fame on the internet,” according to a press release from The CW.

“Dogs of every size and breed will gather together at the aptly named Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., to be recognized for their achievements in film, television, commercials and animation.”

After posing for the “puparazzi” along the red – er, green – carpet, pooches will receive edible awards in categories ranging from “Best Actor in a Supporting Role to a Dog” to “Outstanding Achievement in the Field” (for dogs who risked their lives for humans).

The CW is promising plenty of stars at the World Dog Awards and “musical performances by some of today’s biggest acts.” A dog expo will be held outside the Barker Hanger, with vendor booths, demonstrations and more.

No word yet on who will be judging the event, but viewers will be able to cast their votes for their favorite dogs.
