RECALL ALERT: OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Frozen Food

Laura Goldman, September 27, 2015August 20, 2019

OC Raw Dog Food recall Sept 2015

Several hundred pounds of OC Raw Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation are being voluntarily recalled because the food may be contaminated with Salmonella.

In a Sept. 25 press release, OC Raw Dog, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., said the potential for contamination was noted after routine testing of a 3-pound bag of Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations Meaty Rox by the Colorado Dept. of Food and Agriculture. Another sample from the same lot that was previously tested by the California Dept. of Agriculture tested did not contain Salmonella.

According to OC Raw Dog, 640 pounds of the dog food are being recalled.

The recall is only for the following Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations products (the codes can be found on the lower left corner of the back of the package):

  • 6.5-lb. Doggie Dozen Patties, 4-lb. Doggie Sliders and 3-lb. Meaty Rox
  • Lot number: 1819
  • Use by date: 05/05/16

The affected products were distributed in Colorado, Pennsylvania and Vermont, and sold through independent pet specialty retailers.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. If you or your pet experiences these symptoms after handling or eating the recalled product, see a doctor or veterinarian.

In May, OC Raw Dog voluntarily recalled more than 2,000 pounds of OC Raw Dog Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation after a routine sampling of the product by the Nebraska Dept. of Food and Agriculture tested positive for Salmonella. OC Raw Dog stopped the production and distribution of the food while the company and FDA investigated what caused the contamination.

“We will be making several changes to our methods of production in order to further protect the product we so firmly believe in,” the company stated at the time.

If you purchased a recalled OC Raw Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation product, send a photo of the package with the lot number to Olivia@ocrawdog.com for verification. Dispose of the product immediately or return it to the retailer where you purchased it for a replacement product.

For more information about this recall, call OC Raw Dog at 844-215-3647 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PDT.
