RECALL ALERT: Big Dog Natural Chicken Supreme and Fish Supreme Raw Dehydrated Dog Food

Big Dog Natural (BDN) is voluntarily recalling some lots of its raw dehydrated Chicken Supreme dog food because it may be contaminated with Salmonella and some lots of Fish Supreme dog food that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected products were shipped to online customers from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13, 2015. The recall includes all weight volumes of the products.

Big Dog Natural, which is based in Lakewood, N.J., became aware of a potential issue after receiving notification from the FDA that a sample of Chicken Supreme tested positive for Salmonella and a sample of Fish Supreme tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, according to a news release today.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The symptoms for both people and dogs include high fever, stiffness, nausea and diarrhea.

If you or your dog have any of these symptoms after touching or eating the recalled products, see a doctor or veterinarian.

If you bought the recalled product, stop feeding it to your dog. Consumers can obtain a full refund or exchange by returning the product in its original packaging.

RECALL ALERT: Bravo Blends Chicken Diet for Dogs & Cats

For the second time since July, some lots of Bravo Blends Chicken Diet for Dogs & Cats chubs are being voluntarily recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to a press release today from Bravo Pet Foods, which is based in Manchester, Conn., the products were recalled after routine testing by the Colorado State Dept. of Agriculture revealed the presence of Salmonella contamination.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. If you or your pet experiences these symptoms after handling or eating the recalled products, see a doctor or veterinarian. Bravo Pet Foods has not yet received any reports of illness in either people or animals.

The pet food was sold to distributors, retail stores, internet retailers and directly to consumers throughout the United States.

The following product is being recalled due to the possibility of Salmonella:

This is the fifth voluntary Bravo Pet Foods recall since 2013. The company primarily sells frozen and freeze-dried raw food for dogs and cats.

  • In July, more than 100 cases of Bravo Blend Chicken Diet for Dogs & Cats were recalled because they may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
  • In September 2014, several frozen Bravo chicken and turkey pet food products were recalled due to Salmonella contamination concerns.
  • In May 2014, the company recalled several products that were possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that is generally harmless to pets but can cause sometimes fatal infections in people.
  • In March 2013, Bravo recalled some of its Raw Food Diet Chicken Blend for Dogs and Cats due to Salmonella concerns.

RECALL ALERT: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Chews Bones

Blue Buffalo Company is voluntarily recalling one lot of Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bones because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to a news release, routine testing at the manufacturing site revealed the presence of Salmonella in the lot. Blue Buffalo is based in Wilton, Conn.

The recalled treats were distributed beginning Nov. 19 to PetSmart stores in California, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The recalled Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bones products have the following information on the packages:

  • UPC code (printed on a sticker affixed to the product): 840243110087
  • Expiration date (printed on the shrink wrap): November 4, 2017 (“exp 110417”)

RECALL ALERT: Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks Recall Expanded

Salix Animal Health, which voluntarily recalled one lot of Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks in late September because it had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, has expanded the recall.

According to a news release, the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture confirmed the presence of Salmonella in an additional lot of Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks. “In an abundance of caution, Salix Animal Health is expanding its original recall to include the tested lot and others made around the same time frame,” the company stated.

The recalled treats, packaged in 2.8-ounce bags, were distributed nationwide to Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar retail stores.

The Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks products in the expanded recall have the following information stamped on the back of the package:

  • Item No. 82247
  • Expiration date: 02/2018, 03/2018, 04/2018, 05/2018, 06/2018 or 07/2018
  • UPC code: 0 91093 82247 1

The products in the original recall, also packaged in 2.8-ounce bags, have the following information stamped on the back:

RECALL ALERT: K-9 Kraving Chicken Patties Raw Dog Food

Some K-9 Kraving Chicken Patties raw dog food sold in Maryland has been voluntarily recalled because it may be contaminated with both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product was distributed to retail stores only in Maryland from July 13 to 17, 2015.

K-9 Kraving Dog Food became aware of the issue after it was notified by the FDA that a routine surveillance sample of the Chicken Patties product tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, according to a news release.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
