RECALL ALERT: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Wild Chews Bones

Blue Buffalo Company is voluntarily recalling one lot of Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bones because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to a news release, routine testing at the manufacturing site revealed the presence of Salmonella in the lot. Blue Buffalo is based in Wilton, Conn.

The recalled treats were distributed beginning Nov. 19 to PetSmart stores in California, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The recalled Cub Size Wilderness Wild Chews Bones products have the following information on the packages:

  • UPC code (printed on a sticker affixed to the product): 840243110087
  • Expiration date (printed on the shrink wrap): November 4, 2017 (“exp 110417”)

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. RECALL ALERT: Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks Recall Expanded

Salix Animal Health, which voluntarily recalled one lot of Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks in late September because it had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, has expanded the recall.

According to a news release, the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture confirmed the presence of Salmonella in an additional lot of Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks. “In an abundance of caution, Salix Animal Health is expanding its original recall to include the tested lot and others made around the same time frame,” the company stated.

The recalled treats, packaged in 2.8-ounce bags, were distributed nationwide to Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar retail stores.

The Good ‘n’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks products in the expanded recall have the following information stamped on the back of the package:

  • Item No. 82247
  • Expiration date: 02/2018, 03/2018, 04/2018, 05/2018, 06/2018 or 07/2018
  • UPC code: 0 91093 82247 1

The products in the original recall, also packaged in 2.8-ounce bags, have the following information stamped on the back:

  • Lot # AO15010
  • Expiration date: 03/2018
  • UPC code: 0 91093 82247 1

RECALL ALERT: K-9 Kraving Chicken Patties Raw Dog Food

Some K-9 Kraving Chicken Patties raw dog food sold in Maryland has been voluntarily recalled because it may be contaminated with both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product was distributed to retail stores only in Maryland from July 13 to 17, 2015.

K-9 Kraving Dog Food became aware of the issue after it was notified by the FDA that a routine surveillance sample of the Chicken Patties product tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, according to a news release.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The symptoms for both people and dogs include high fever, stiffness, nausea and diarrhea.

If you or your dog have any of these symptoms after touching or eating the recalled product, see a doctor or veterinarian.

If you bought the recalled product, stop feeding it to your dog. Consumers can obtain a full refund or exchange by either returning the product in its original packaging or bringing a proof of purchase to the store.

“At K-9 Kraving Dog Food, we take quality and safety very seriously,” said CEO Robert Barrett in the news release. “We believe that under all circumstances, health and safety comes first, and we are committed to providing the best possible nutrition for pets.”

According to the company’s website, “K-9 Kraving’s frozen raw dog foods are U.S.A. Made products, manufactured in Baltimore, Maryland from ingredients sourced fresh from within the United States* (fresh *Elk meat, fresh whole *Mackerel are imported from Canada).”

According to a news release, the potential for contamination was discovered after routine testing by the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture revealed the presence of Salmonella. No other products were affected.

The recalled product is packaged in a 2.8-ounce bag with the following information stamped on the back:

  • Lot # AO15010
  • Expiration date: 03/2018

The UPC code is 0 91093 82247 1.

RECALL ALERT: OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Frozen Food

Several hundred pounds of OC Raw Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation are being voluntarily recalled because the food may be contaminated with Salmonella.

In a Sept. 25 press release, OC Raw Dog, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., said the potential for contamination was noted after routine testing of a 3-pound bag of Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations Meaty Rox by the Colorado Dept. of Food and Agriculture. Another sample from the same lot that was previously tested by the California Dept. of Agriculture tested did not contain Salmonella.

According to OC Raw Dog, 640 pounds of the dog food are being recalled.

The recall is only for the following Chicken, Fish & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations products (the codes can be found on the lower left corner of the back of the package):

  • 6.5-lb. Doggie Dozen Patties, 4-lb. Doggie Sliders and 3-lb. Meaty Rox
  • Lot number: 1819
  • Use by date: 05/05/16

The affected products were distributed in Colorado, Pennsylvania and Vermont, and sold through independent pet specialty retailers.

In May, OC Raw Dog voluntarily recalled more than 2,000 pounds of OC Raw Dog Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation after a routine sampling of the product by the Nebraska Dept. of Food and Agriculture tested positive for Salmonella. OC Raw Dog stopped the production and distribution of the food while the company and FDA investigated what caused the contamination.

“We will be making several changes to our methods of production in order to further protect the product we so firmly believe in,” the company stated at the time.
