RECALL ALERT: Nylabone Puppy Starter Kit

Nylabone Products is recalling some Puppy Starter Kits because the chew toys may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Salmonella in one lot of 1.69 oz. packages of the Puppy Starter Kit, according to a press release.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated treats. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. If you or your pet experiences these symptoms after handling or eating the recalled product, see a doctor or veterinarian.

The recalled Puppy Starter Kits were distributed nationwide and to Canada.

The product comes in a 1.69 oz. package, with the lot number (LT) 21935, UPC code 0-18214-81291-3 and expiration date 3/22/18, which can all be found on the back of the package.

If you bought one of the recalled Puppy Starter Kits, do not give the chew toys to your puppy. For a full refund or replacement, send the product to:

RECALL ALERT: Buster’s Natural Pet Supply Beef Trachea Treats

More than 1,000 Buster’s Natural Pet Supply Beef Trachea Pet Treats sold in two Colorado cities are being voluntarily recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pet International of Miami is recalling 1,500 units of the product that were sold in retail stores in Conifer and Lakewood, Colo.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling program of the product, obtained from Buster’s Natural Pet Supply in Conifer, tested positive for Salmonella. The sample was tested by the Colorado Dept. of Agriculture and analyzed by the FDA.

The product sampled had a Buster’s Natural Pet Supply label, but was manufactured by Pet International. Buster’s Natural Pet Supply has recalled the entire product from the two stores in which it is sold. Pet International is investigating what caused the problem.

RECALL ALERT: Nutrisca Chicken and Chick Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food

Some 4-pound bags of Nutrisca Chicken and Chick Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food are being voluntarily recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

According to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall notice, Tuffy’s Pet Foods, Inc., of Perham, Minn., manufactured the product for Nutrisca.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling program by the Ohio Dept. of Agriculture found Salmonella in one 4-pound bag of the product.

Salmonella can affect animals as well as people who handle the contaminated food. The symptoms for both people and animals include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. If you or your pet experiences these symptoms after handling or eating the recalled product, see a doctor or veterinarian.

The recalled Nutrisca Chicken and Chick Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food was distributed nationwide to distributors, brokers, retail stores and internet retailers.

The recall is limited to 4-pound bags of the product, with the UPC Code “8 84244 12495 7” (located on the lower back of the bag) and the following Lot Codes and Best by Dates (both are located on upper back of the bag).

RECALL ALERT: J.J. Fuds Expands Frozen, Raw Dog Food Recall

J.J. Fuds, Inc., which voluntarily recalled one lot of its frozen, raw Premium Natural Blends Chicken Tender Chunks dog food Jan. 24, has expanded the recall to include all lots of the product, along with all lots of J.J. Fuds Beef Tender Chunks and J.J. Fuds Duckling Tender Chunks.

According to a Feb. 5 press release, the recalled dog food has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and/or Salmonella. (A Jan. 27 fax sent to distributors identified additional recalled products as “Beef Strips” and “Duck Strips.”)

The recalled products were sold in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

They can be identified by the UPC number and batch ID code (manufactured date), which are printed on the back of the individual plastic bag or on the master case label.

RECALL ALERT: Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats

Some Big Bark All Natural Beef Jerky Treats for Dogs are being voluntarily recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

According to a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the product’s manufacturer, Grill-Phoria LLC, of Loveland, Colo., is recalling about 200 3.5-ounce stand-up pouches. The bags do not have lot codes.

The recalled jerky treats were manufactured and distributed between Sept. 20, 2014 and Jan. 2, 2015 to independent pet stores in Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling test by the Colorado Dept. of Agriculture revealed that the finished product tested positive for Salmonella.

Salmonella can affect animals who eat the contaminated products, and there is also a risk to humans who handle the products, especially if they do not thoroughly wash their hands (and any surfaces the product touched) afterward.

The symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in both pets and people include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Pets may also become lethargic. If you or your dog experience any of these symptoms after eating or handling this product, see a doctor or veterinarian.
